Director of Storytelling

Brandon De Kock

Brandon has been telling stories to anyone who will listen for the past 25 years. A celebrated writer, photographer, editor, book author and public speaker, he’s had too much to eat and drink on all seven continents and played golf on six of them, although he now claims to be ‘completely recovered’ from the sport.

After a 10-year career in the music industry, he moved into publishing with RamsayMedia (publishers of Wine, Getaway, CAR) where he assumed the role of editor of Compleat Golfer for a decade before moving into a role of group editor and creative director.

It was in that capacity that he, together with the late Stuart Lowe, launched RamsayMedia Research Solutions to provide bespoke services for the brands in the stable and together they laid the foundations for the research consultancy that we now know as WhyFive Strategic Insights.

In 2014, he was appointed to the curatorial panel for the Cape Town World Design Capital program and in the same year, together with his wife Nikki Werner, became an internationally awarded book author thanks to their debut hard cover, Cook.Better. As a creative duo, they continue to publish stories and images on supertasters.co.za with a focus on discovering and promoting the wonderful world of food, wine and travel, the places they discover and the people they meet along the way.

And for the past 12 years, he’s been partner in and creative director of WhyFive, the company behind the annual BrandMapp survey, the most in-depth study of taxpaying consumer households in South Africa. As a go-to thought-leader in the world of consumer behaviour, he specialises in taking data and presenting them like great rock songs.
